Compliance Updates for Cash Discount / Two-Tier Pricing

Card networks are now enforcing existing requirements for machines using Cash Discount, requiring the card price and cash price to be displayed side-by-side during checkout. A subset of devices must complete updates by December 31, 2025, with nationwide enforcement following in 2026.

What's changing?

  • Cantaloupe will be updating card reader checkout flows to ensure they meet card-network display requirements.
  • Operators must complete certain physical updates to avoid potential compliance fines or processing interruptions.
  • A subset of devices using Cash Discount / Two-Tier Pricing must have updates applied by December 31, 2025.
  • The same requirements will apply nationwide in 2026.
  • Machines not using Cash Discount / Two-Tier Pricing are not affected.

What's changing on your devices?

G10/G11 Telemeters with Vendi, VP6300, or OTI Duo Readers

New Checkout Flow:

  • Customer selects a product and taps their card.
  • The reader displays both the card price and the cash price side-by-side.
  • Customer taps again to confirm purchase at the card price.

Engage & Engage Combo Readers

New Checkout Flow:

  • After selecting a product and presenting payment, the screen displays two on-screen options:
    • Card Price
    • Cash Price
  • Selecting Card Price completes the transaction.
  • Selecting Cash Price cancels the card transaction and prompts the customer to pay with cash.

What you need to do

Physical Updates Required

  • Replace all existing Two-Tier Pricing decals with the new Cash Discount sticker.
  • Cantaloupe will ship new stickers automatically; additional sets will be available in the online store.
  • Remove any cash pricing coil labels. Pricing should appear only on the LCD display or card reader.
  • If you do not currently use coil labels, no changes are required.

Software Updates (Handled by Cantaloupe)

  • Cantaloupe will enable the new required reader behavior automatically.
  • You will be able to review and manage this through the Cash Discount Mode toggle in Seed Live.

Deadline

Initial Update Requirements

  • Physical updates for first-phase devices completed by: December 31, 2025
  • Reader software updates released before: December 31, 2025

Nationwide Requirements

  • The same updates will be required later in 2026
  • Cantaloupe will provide final timing once confirmed

Failure to meet these requirements may result in compliance penalties or card-processing suspension.
