Changes Coming to 2G/3G Device Support in June 2021

USA Technologies will be ending support of its ePort and Seed 2G and 3G devices, excluding 3G in Canada, on June 1, 2021. As of this date, technical assistance, firmware and software support will no longer be available. Specifically, 1) technical support for transferring 2G/3G devices to other customers/operators; 2) processing RMA requests for 2G/3G devices; 3) enhancement and firmware updates; and 4) limited availability of spare parts. These 2G/3G devices will transition into Extended Support which will be effective until the specific devices wireless sunset carrier shutdown date (see chart below for details by carrier). Extended Support will include necessary security updates. Wireless carriers have not provided a sunset date for 3G devices in Canada, once one is published, USAT will align the ending of device support with all wireless carrier 3G shutdowns.

USAT strongly recommends that you move to our 4G devices to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available. You will still be able to use these older devices, but over time, your business may face an increase in connectivity issues as wireless carriers shutdown towers supporting 2G/3G units in the field. USAT will not take any active measures to block legacy devices from connecting to the platform, but these older devices may encounter performance and/or reliability issues over time. For additional information on 3G sunsets and timelines by carrier, see our blog post from October 15, 2020, which includes a wireless carrier matrix.
